Our Thoughts

Our Thoughts

There had been so many circumstances and premonitions amongst us siblings that we all tried to ignore because we did not want to lose our parents, hoping it would not be a coincidence :

- Our parents, out of the blue, decided to have their tombs built and even had the builder to rush its construction and have it completed before November 1 (All Saint's Day). They passed away on November 3.

- During the construction, our parents initially could not agree on how to construct the tombs. Our mother wanted their tombs to be separate so the space available could be used. However, our father wanted only one tomb for the both of them because as he said, he "wanted them to be together always.". Eventually, my mom conceded, one tomb was built.

- During the burial of our parents, everybody would tell us, that during the last All Saint's Day (Filipinos give respect to their deceased and go to the cemeteries during this day), it was the very first time that our parents went all around the cemeteries visiting everybody they knew. As the mourners who went to their wake would say, "parang silang namamaalam (as if they were saying their last farewells)".

- Starting this year, our parents were starting to give us details on how they wanted their funerals. At that time we were always chiding them for making such discussion and usually dismissed these conversations. However, our mother said that at her wake, she wanted a lot of flowers and that her wake should last for 2-3 days. The first detail we complied, but for the second detail, the wake lasted for 7 seven days to accomodate all the mourners.

- A week prior to passing away, our father underwent his annual check-up and was admitted in the hospital for it. During that time, Marissa, the youngest sibling was able to talk to our Mom. Although our father was generally healthy, our Mom confided to her that if anything untoward will happen to our father, "gusto niyang masabay na" (she would rather go at the same time with him)".

- Two days prior their passing away, I was able to talk to my Mom. Usually I'll call once a month, but this month, I have been calling weekly. After this last call, when we bade farewell and told each other to take care of ourselves, I could feel that it was with the sincerest of meaning and depth. It was the first time that I had ever prayed really hard and cried after talking with them.

- The second sibling June, sent an anniversary card supposedly for their 38th wedding anniversary on October 16. Somehow, the card arrived in the Philippines on the day that we all arrived in Manila. The card had the ff inscription written : "And they lived happily ever after."

- It is a Filipino belief to put a chick on top of the coffin of a person who had died an unnatural death. It is said that whenever the chick chirps, the assailant's concience is not to be put to peace. The chicks died 4 days later, the same day the assailant was captured. For all it was worth, what a coincidence.

- Our father has always led a simple but incredible life. He had always placed the needs of others : family, friends and even strangers precedent over his own. During the wake, there were inumerable deeds of kindness and generosity that our family became aware of by the very people he helped. It was then that  I repeatedly became witness to the tears and wails of people mourning whom he helped make their lives a little better.

He did his mission in life quietly and without fanfare. He would be kind and generous to the poorest of the poor, people whom no one else cared to help, but needed it the most. During the wake, mourners would tell us about the numerous deeds of my father. There was a family who were so desperate and so poor that they had no money nor place to bury their loved one. Upon hearing this, right then and there, my father gave away his own memorial plan to this family. There was another instance involving a Magbobote (junk buyer/seller). In the Philippines, the magbobote would walk for miles buying used bottles and newspapers or whatever metal scraps from people and sell them at a junkshop. Upon learning that this father-of-five was about to have his family without electricity the following day due to non-payment of dues, he gave away all of the newspapers, bottles and metal scrap he had and gave the person cash to pay off the arrears. These are just one of many unsung deeds and gestures that our father had afforded his fellowmen and I am sure that we may not hear of most of them, just like the way he would have wanted it. But rest assured, I am definite that our Father Almighty is aware of all of them.

As I have said to myself, I may be a doctor by profession, but whatever my father achieved in helping others, wala pa ako sa kalingkingan na nagawa niya (I haven't done even a fraction of what he did). I have only this to say to our father, "You don't have to be phenomenal to do phenomenal things."

- Our mother has always been an independent and vibrant  woman : being a professor, a HS Science Department head, assistant to the Dean at the UPHR CAS and earning her doctorate degree in Education. While doing so, she has earned the respect of her colleagues and her students. She not only taught the life sciences, she also help teach her students what life was all about, and has always taken the side of what was right and just.  On the domestic side of life, our father has always wanted her to stay at home so they would be together all the time. Eventually, she opted retirement a few months ago to be with our dad in spite of offers to be a Dean. As she has been telling her friends, "I have been dedicating my life to my students and my work and now it is about time that I serve and dedicate my life to Jun fulltime as his wife." As I have always known, Mommy you did your best and you are the best. If ever I get married, I would be lucky to have a wife with half of your qualities.

- Our youngest sibling, a nurse, had plans going back to the Philippines as early as a year ago. She has always wanted that one of us take care of our parents as they reach their golden years. We all knew that our parents were the happiest when their grandchildren were around.  Although excited about the move, somehow, our mother advised them to come over in 2-3 years time instead. Perhaps, she had a gut feeling telling her to delay their move and eventually protect her grandchildren from that fateful morning?

MY THOUGHTS:

- I repeatedly stood witness to the tears and wails of people who mourn as I mourn. I repeatedly stood witness to the fury and anger of people who could not believe that all of people, why did this happen to Jun and Precy? Ay napakababait nila (they were so kind). Bakit sila pa? (Why them?)

- I repeatedly stood witness to people who swore that if they found themselves with the assailants in a room, only one of them will be left standing. I am humbled  and honored that you will risk your lives for our parents Kuya Rey, Kuya Berning, etc. but we can not take justice in our own hands.

- I repeatedly stood witness to people who wanted to give the assailants "exactly what they inflicted and more". Some wanted lethal injection. Some wanted the electric chair. Some even wanted to do things that even I have never heard of. Even the most pious and religious townfolk could not phanthom their anger and disbelief. But again, we can not take justice in our own hands.

- I would want to personally thank the witnesses who are willing to risk their lives so that justice may be brought to our parents. I would not mention their names in order to maintain their safety and protect their privacy. I would want to thank our relatives, friends and lawyers who are willing to go through the thick and thin in pursuing the case. We must let the wheels of justice turn because we live in a civil society. I hope that justice will prevail in the Philippines. But even if the assailants are given the highest of all penalties, it will not bring back the lives of our parents.

- Although I know that our parents experience terrible pain and suffering in the last minutes of their lives, we know that it was only temporary. They have been blessed many times over in their lives and I know that have been very thankful to the Almighty for all of them. However, at the end of every day, I can rest assured that God has reserved a big part of His heart for them and has graciously received them with open arms.

My Eulogy :

(In behalf of my sisters and all our relatives, we wholeheartedly want to thank you all for the love and support afforded to us in this time of our deepest anguish and sorrow.)

(Daddy, Mommy, in behalf of Bheybee and Marissa, we would would want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for the immense honor that you have afforded us, that is, of being your children. We humbly bow our heads and thank you both.)

(I would wish to share some memories of our parents. Daddy was such a simple person, with hopes of a simple life. He came from an ordinary but principled family.)

(He tried his luck going abroad and travelled around the world, so as to provide a better life for his family. Even upon his retirement from the USNavy, he whole-heartedly returned to the Philippines because of his love of the Motherland.)

(He always made sure that his family, relatives, friends and even strangers were taken care of, taking precedence even over his own well-being.)

Punung-puno ng buhay at always on the go. (A loving mother and wife is how I described our mother, always ready to listen, give advice and counsel. Full of life and always on the go. She spent thirty years of her life sharing her acquired knowledge and innate wisdom. She completed her degree in Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Santo Tomas and her Doctor of Education degree at the Philippine Women's University. She was also a member of the International Paleontology Society.)

(She has always been an educator. She started teaching at Tirona High School then at the UPHR Business High School and the College of Arts and Sciences where she was Assistant to the Dean. She has helped build and mold the minds and souls of so many of the youth enlightening them what the world has to offer:  not only in the relam of the life sciences, but also regarding the meaning of life. Simply said, this is what I could say about our mother : "She is truly beautiful inside and out.")

(It has always been our parents' ultimate dream to raise their children as obedient God-fearing individuals. They tried their best within their means to give their children a good life and education. As what Bheybee and Marissa have always said, they hope that they will be able to raise their children the way they were raised.)

Mom and Dad have known each other for all their lives. (They were each other's life and joy.)

Winika nga ni Mommy na "it was about time to give Jun 100% of her time". Their last days on Earth were their best times together. (Our father has always requested that our mother to retire from teaching so they would always be together at home. She granted his request last year and has always confided with her friends that "It is about time to give Jun 100% of her time". Their last days on Earth were their best times together.)

(If there was any consolation at all of their untimely demise, it can be said that even at the time that they crossed over to Eternal Life, they were still together. Two weeks prior to their departure, Marissa was able to talk to our Mom. In their conversation, our Mom mentioned that our father was on his way to have his annual regular check-up. She confided that if anything untoward happens to him, she wished that the same happens to her and that they go together.)

(However, the only reason why we can find solace in our hearts, is that we know that our parents has been whole-heartedly recieved by the Lord Almighty. Although they experienced great suffering in the last moments of their lives, we know that they have been granted True and Everlasting Peace. Let us continue to pray for the souls of Daddy and Mommy.)

(May I make the last request from all of you. Whenever you happen to walk or pass in front of our home, I hope you remember our parents,  not by the way they died, but remember and commemorate them by the way they lived their lives and how they made the world a better place to live. Also, it is at our home where Jun and Precy quietly but happily lives their lives.)

E-MAILS :

finally, mrs. precy jaminal and husband were brought to their last
home at 3pm today at the paradise cemetery at tabon kawit cavite.
the whole church were filled up with standing room only on the
aisle. two carriages carried their bodies along the street of kawit.
there were flowers thrown on the street while they passed by.
traffic along the kawit road si closed because the people
overcrowded the street from gutter to gutter. it took 2:30 - 4:00 pm
to finish the mass and the final wake where everyone wanted to see
them. i think all the people in kawit joined the funeral of what
they called " magasawang santa claus. nawalan daw sila ng santa
claus ngayong pasko" sid the people in their locality. they were
placed on the tomb that was made ready by husband of precy where
they are rested side by side

Dear Mar,
Matthew Ch 11 v28-30
Jesus gives true rest...
" come to Me, all you who labor and are  heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and
learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and
you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy
and My burden is light. "
Ephesians Ch 6 v10-13
The whole armor of God....
" Finally, my brethen, be strong in the Lord and in
the power of His might. Pu on the armor of God, that
you may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities of darkness of this age,
against spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly
places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that
you may able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand."
May these words from the holy bible strengthen you and
your love ones. Christ died for our sins that we may
be able to have the eternal life with the Father in
heaven. By this we are assured that we are saved for
those who believe in Him....
Sincerely,
Letty

I became very close to Mrs. Jaminal when we were both assigned as chairpersons in our respective departments.  We would talk about many things in the faculty room and I could vividly recall that whenever there were movies of Vilma Santos, she would inform me at once, because she knew I was an avid fan of hers.  She had so many endearing ways, which anyone can never forget, more so, by a friend who regard her as a very dignified regal and fashionable lady.  During special occasions, she used to don on her best outfits with those rare, and pricey diamonds of hers.  Yet, with all her fortune, she was a down-to-earth person and I never heard her brag about her status in life, which everybody knows, belongs to the upper bracket in society.

The only thing we can relive her memories is to continue praying for her and her husband's soul.  In fact, our fellow parishoners in our area have started to pray for their souls.  Mrs. Jaminal is indeed a great loss of the PHCR family.

Mar,

Martin and family

I am really saddened by this news that you sent me. I just learned it right now. My heartfelt condolences to you and your sisters.

Mar,
Me and my mom were moved and cried upon browsing the webpage of your loving parents.  We're both pretty sure that their undying services that have touched many lives in their existence can be considered a classic example of the saying "YOU CANNOT PUT A GOOD PERSON DOWN".
Our prayers will always be with your family.  Just wanna share some enlightning passage that I've read from the prayer book, as you and your family goes through life's journey. Here it goes "
    "THERE'S A REASON"
For every pain that we must bear,
For every burden, every care,
                      THERE'S A REASON
For every grief, that bows the heart,
For every tear-drop that is shed
                       THERE'S A REASON
For every hurt, for every plight,
For every lonely, pain-racked night
                       THERE'S A REASON
But if we trust God, as we should,
It all workout for our good,  AS HE KNOWS THE REASON.
I may say that prayers will help us to be aways in the presence of God and to remain close in spirit to those we love. I am wishing you the best in your life's journey.
your Friend,
Willie

Junie, we really got touched about all the pictures especially about their happy good old days. How are you doing? Take care of yourselves and I know that your dad and mom are all happy now with the Lord. They're such a nice couple and I was so sad about their tragic death. They don't deserve that. Your dad is like a big brother to me and I have that much respect for him. Eliezer and me are giving our deepest condolences to all of you. I will call you one of these days. We love and miss you all.
Regards, Ate Annie and Kuya Eliezer

What a beautiful tribute to your parents. We have not only lost an uncle and an aunt but we have also lost our patriarch and our rock. May God bless their souls and may they rest in peace. We will remember them always.
Love, Ate Gene

Dear MAR,
The program has been asking about any update about your family and all I can say are information coming from Evay.  I hope you are doing good.  I really worry about you. Stand firm now that you are the eldest among the three children.  I really hope  that justice will prevail.  I know how it hurts to lose a love one...but I can't imagine how hard to lose both at the same time.  My mommy is now in a better place...so are your parents.  Stand firm and if ou need to talk...when you get back  of course I am always here....Ricky and Cali will be there for you too.  Call or leave a message when you get back..  Ingat kayo diyan.  We miss you guys
love, ricky amy and cali
Hi, Mar!
How are you doing? With all that had happened then coming back here in US, taking time for you to respond to e-mail is so thoughtful. I am happy to hear from you. Offering the website for others to see is such a great idea. What had been done to them is so incomprehensible and looking at your parents' pictures young then thru the years gave me a sense of comfort and closure. Thank you for doing that. I cried when I read the caption, 'Sila ang ligaya at pag-ibig ng isa't-isa.' and it made me believe more in love and goodness of others despite the reality of evil. Jim and I are here for you. If you need company , I can visit you there in Florida anytime. Talk to you soon.
Lea

Hi Junie,
Condolence to you and sa whole family for what happened to your parents., I hope you are all right, it is hard to have them go but I know as all of us know, that they are happy where they are now, and they have been blessed with good grandchildren and children like you. I will keep you and them in my prayers. If you need to talk or something.
Thanks,
 Tess

Mar,
May the peace and love of the Lord be with you. I learned about the unimaginable/tragic  fate Tita Precy and Tito Jun suffered. Nobody deserves to pass on that way. Justice shall be served !! Mar, I wan't you to know I am thinking lovingly of you and your family, and WE have been praying, for your peace and acceptance( despite the nagging questions in your mind- is this tragedy a part of his divine plan ??).Have faith. Nagkasalisi tayo sa Pilipinas, I was there from 11-27 to  12-5, para sunduin si Mommy, I met with Robert, Diko and Aries who told me details of the story. We went to Tagaytay and spent the night just talking about you, those boys were deeply affected as well. I know, no words will afford, even a dullop of comfort to you and your family. Let time heal your wounds - and it will with God's grace. He works in mysterious ways, and I pray that you will see the light beyond the sorrow and grief you are
currently facing. It will be extremely hard,  but I urge you to move on, focus on your training, and  continue praying, for He will see you through. May God bless you and your family  , Meo

dear junie,

Junie,
I am very sorry for your lost- I got the bad news from Tess. My prayers are with you.  Thanks for sharing the website. It’s a great tribute to your parents. Take care, Angelo

 dearest junie,

I just saw your email of 27nov. I am so touched by your example of courage and faith. needless to say, myself and the rest of the clan have slowly accepted our loss and are moving on, taking each day as it comes. the holy season this year is never the same without the presence of ninang pres & ninong jun. but all of us are hopeful that next year will be a different one, knowing that they are both in the arms of our graceful God.

our special prayers are mostly petitioned for you, ate baby and marissa. but by just reading your email, I am sure that God have extended to you His healing hand already. and I say amen to that!

the mansion looks very lively at night. the christmas lights help wash away whatever unspeakable darkness happened in the recent past. whenever I get the chance to pass by your place I silently say hello and smile. ito lang ang alam kong paraan para manatiling buhay ang ala-ala nila sa akin. the grandeur of the house will forever live on even with the throng of strangers and passersby who take a peek every single day.

my mom & I were talking recently, and she's thinking of sending an article to the inquirer newspaper's commentary section called "highblood". with your permission, mom wants to recall all but happy memories with your parents, and a hope for a more safer environment in our town. I will help her in the narration of the article. let me know what's on your mind.

please extend my greetings to ate baby & marissa. keep up the good work with the website. take care and happy holidays.

love, bjay (& mike)

This is so sad. I have known Mrs. Jaminal all the years I've been in Perpetual being my  Science and Tech Chairman. She had always been very supportive of us, and had been like a Mother to the department. I can still remember her laughter, especially when there's tsismis about movie stars. She had been very friendly and sweet to everybody.

SHE WILL BE MISSED MORE THAN EVER!

Dear Mar,
Your mom has played a special role in my life.  It was a shock for me.  The moment I heard about that news, I immediately took my HS pictures and looked closely on her sweet smile, both from her lips and her eyes.
She will always be in my prayers and I hope justice prevails.
Be strong, that is what she wants you to do.
Sincerely,
Maritess
